Another Sean-ism ... October 11, 2009

So, my little man is sick. He's got a wicked throat infection and he's miserable. Yesterday his temp went at its highest to 39.4C. I don't panic too badly, but I do hate when they have fevers. My over active imagination goes into hyper drive and being a nurse...well...let's just say ignorance is bliss.

So, today he's not feeling any better and he has no appetite. Sean...no appetite...something is definitely wrong. Eating for Sean is (and these are his words) "one of my favourite hobbies." So to the after hours clinic we go. With a box of tissue in hand we land at the clinic on Coverdale Road where a certain personality-less Dr. is on call. We wait in the exam room and Sean looks over to the table where all the supplies are and this is the conversation that followed:

Sean: "Wow, this doctor really has a lot of Popsicle sticks"

I look around thinking; 'Popsicle sticks??'

Me: "Oh, those aren't Popsicle sticks, baby. Those are tongue depressors."

Sean: "What's a tongue depressor?"

Me: "It's what the doctor uses to hold your tongue down when he wants to look at the back of your throat."

Sean: "Oh, I hate those. When he sticks them in my mouth they touch my uvula and make me (insert gagging noise here)."

....did he just say "uvula"????

Me: "Hits the back of your what???"

Sean: "Uvula!" and he says it with that tone like...D'uh, mum...don't you speak English?

Yep, he said it. Let's see if he knows what it is.

Me (in my best teacher voice): "Uh, baby...what's an uvula??"

Sean: "It's that pink dangly thing at the back of your throat."

OK..he knows what it's called. I'm impressed.

Me: "How did you know what that dangly thing was called?"

Sean: "I heard it on TV. On (one of his cartoons he likes), they were hanging from this uvula and they were going back and forth and back and forth and then they sprang free from the (??)'s mouth."

I laughed. So, clearly cartoons aren't all that bad. They're full of useless information kids can use to dazzle their parents!!!
